Pink & Green Thursdays

I rarely go to the mall anymore, but I decided to try out the local "big" mall around here for some cheap, of-the-moment looks (ie neutrals + neon). I ended up spending $40, but I got a dress, a skirt, a necklace and a pair of earrings out of it. I'm in love with peach and mint for Spring, so it is no surprise that I came out of the store with this peach lace skirt and beaded necklace:

Skirt & necklace- Forever21, bangles- J.Crew, Mint Candy Apple nail polish- Essie

I was worried that I wasn't going to be able to pair the skirt with anything I owned, but since it is a solid color I figured I couldn't go wrong with color blocking.

Blazer- vintage Nordstrom, Top- Greylin, Skirt and necklace- F21, sandals- Ann Taylor

Please ignore my messy office, and the fact the skirt is twisted.

Eat: G's Texas Pulled Pork

Our Sunday tradition is cook one big meal that we can pick at for the rest of the week. Past dishes have included pork belly (delicious but so much work), ribs, leg of lamb, and beef roasts.

Yesterday was G's day for planning, and this is what he came up with:
  • 7-8 lb pork shoulder, bone-in
  • 4 yucca root (rough chop)
  • 3 spring onions (rough chop)
  • 6 jalapenos (de-seeded and minced)
  • 1.5 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 5-7 tomatillos, quartered
  • Juice of 1 lime

Don't get rid of all the fat- you need some for flavor
1) Dump the yucca, onions, tomatillos and half of the jalapenos in the slow cooker.
2) Place the pork shoulder on top of the veggies in the slow cooker.
3) Make a bunch of small incisions all over the pork shoulder.
4) Fill each incision with a mixture of the garlic and remaining jalapeno, dump in remaining mixture on top of the pork shoulder.
5) Set the slow cooker for 6-8 hours on low.

Notes: Make sure to cut the skin off of the pork shoulder- or have your butcher do it for you (see below). We are very used to the taste of jalapenos- so adjust the amount to suit your taste buds.

Enjoy!

Love: Lazy Sunday

I am loving today! Went out for a simple breakfast with G at Woodstar- which has the best chai if you were wondering. We bought a loaf of bread to take home for dinner, but then ended up eating a good chunk of it at the cafe. We then prepped dinner for tonight and now I'm watching as much Arrested Development as my brain can handle.

Apple crisp

The Boule is so good.

Love: Unseasonably Warm Spring

This past week was ridiculously hot. Our area broke several records and hit 85 degrees in March! This is summer weather, people! So I took in the last of the spring bulbs before they wilted, put on my summer dresses and enjoyed it.

I'm gonna miss you, daffodils

Scored this dress at Forever 21
Yes, more bubble tea
Made these for our office picnic!

I had to do something with the leftover chocolate glaze...
Too bad it is supposed to cool down again by the weekend :(

Spring Bulb Show!

Every year I try and make it to the Spring Bulb Show at Smith College- it is one of the largest Spring flower shows on the East Coast. Usually they have busloads of old ladies coming to visit.

Before I made it to the show, I checked out Smith's renovated library. They added a new reading room where the library offices used to be, directly across from the browsing room. The room is huge and has great display areas with collections from the Smith College archives and Rare Books room. When I visited one display area was dedicated to old bound books with elaborate binding art.

full of beautiful books

this was my favorite binding

The bulb show only lasts two weeks, so it was rare that I managed to be the only one in the show for the beginning of the evening session.

smells like heaven

On Saturday night I went to the Amherst Monte Carlo Night, which was a benefit for the AMRHS booster club and Boys & Girls Club.
